Conference Weekend

It's a funny thing... This morning, I got up and, as is my habit every morning, I rushed to check my email and my blog before getting myself going. I read a message from one of Devin's aunts, and she mentioned something about conference weekend. I thought to myself, "Conference Weekend? It's not Conference Weekend! That's the first weekend in October!" Then I looked at the date, and realized that, yes, it is October, and it is Conference Weekend! I'm looking forward to getting our DVD's of conference so we can listen and watch it! Our internet isn't good enough to do both. We can sometimes hear it, but it all depends on if the power decides to stay constant (ha ha ha ha). What Devin and I have done is after the kids go to bed, we will listen to one conference talk, and then discuss it. I find that that is so helpful to me--we are actually able to listen to and contemplate the talks given, whereas if we tried to listen while the kids were awake, it becomes a total fiasco! Once we get the DVD's, we let the kids watch conference talks sometimes before bedtime--and since it's a 'movie' and it lengthens out the time before they have to be in bed, it's a treat! :) I do miss those Sundays, though, when it was really Conference Weekend...where we got to just turn on the tv, and there it was! And we could sit in our pj's and eat candy or whatever we felt like, and watch the Prophet and the Apostles and the General Authorities of the church speak and give us the words that we needed to hear! Life changes. I get more out of conference now than I used to, but I still miss the nice relaxed atmosphere of watching it live at home.
